Introducing: Plastic Fischer

Plastik Fischer is a German company founded in 2019 to combat ocean plastic pollution by capturing plastic waste directly in rivers before it reaches the sea.

The company developed the "TrashBoom" technology, a low-tech floating barrier that effectively stops plastic waste in rivers while allowing fish to pass unhindered. These barriers are made from locally available materials, which saves costs and strengthens the local economy. By involving local people in the construction and operation of the systems, Plastic Fischer creates jobs and raises awareness of the plastic problem.

Plastic Fisher's approach of intercepting plastic waste in rivers before it reaches the oceans is particularly effective, as around 80% of marine plastic enters the sea via rivers.

Through their work, the company has collected and processed over 2023 tons of plastic by 500 and created 70 local jobs in India and Indonesia.
